Factors Influencing Tobacco Use Among Adolescents and Young Adults
I wrote this research paper for my Determinants of Health Behavior class to analyze tobacco use among adolescents through the lens of the Social-Ecological Model (SEM). The assignment demanded a strong grasp of the social-ecological theory, social determinants, and general health terminology. Through this process, I developed skills in identifying reliable sources and summarizing complex information in a clear and concise manner. The assignment heavily challenged my writing skills, considering it was one of the first research papers I had ever written, which required many peer-reviewed articles and sources. As a result, I have gained critical thinking and advanced writing skills that would be reflected in future research projects in graduate school.
Understanding The Layers of Influence and Health Challenges {Pressbooks Chapter}
I wrote this Pressbooks chapter for my Health of At-Risk Children and Families course. The purpose of this chapter was to give a thorough introduction of the social-ecological model, explain adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and define the term “at-risk”. This assignment was a collaboration between all the students in the course to raise awareness on complex children and family health issues as well as providing interventions to reduce those health complications. Furthermore, this assignment challenged me to communicate effectively and ensure that my chapter aligned with the greater scope of the project. I hope to use these skills to collaborate with future co-workers in clinical settings to provide high-quality care.
