Sample Coursework

I wrote this essay for my Spanish Food and Culture class while studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain. It emphasizes how Islam, Judaism, and Christianity coexisted and their influence on Spanish cuisine through social norms and traditions. The goal of this assignment was to develop an original writing prompt based on the course textbook and independently research to expand on that topic to tell a story. Through this essay, it deepened my understanding of cultural perspectives and how their impact can have lasting effects through traditions, beliefs, and food. As a result, I have gained more cultural insight and therefore, I am more equipped to help and respect patients from different cultural backgrounds.
