Spanish 4190:
This literature review was made for my Spanish Health and the Hispanic Community class to thoroughly analyze how social determinants influence malnutrition among Latinos in the United States while also providing evidence-based solutions to reduce risks. This assignment required many hours of reading and writing in Spanish which ultimately strengthened my cultural understanding and Spanish skills. It was challenging to write such an important research paper in a completely different language, but that challenge only encouraged me to push myself further. As a result of this literature review, I can confidently rely on my abilities to understand and translate complex documents in Spanish and present information in a manner that patients will easily be able to comprehend.
Spanish 3150:
This presentation is one of multiple projects I completed in Spanish for Health Professionals where we would research common health diseases, gather general information about the disease, and present our work to the class completely in Spanish. For this assignment, the oral presentation was a big component, as it challenged me to communicate complex medical information effectively and significantly boosted my confidence in speaking Spanish. This course focused mainly on effective health communication and practicing medical terminology in Spanish. My presentation provided an overview about urinary tract infections, including symptoms and treatments. I hope to use the skills I learned from these presentations to provide clear and useful information to future Spanish speaking patients confidently.
